In the 1650s, clockmakers in Rome devised a way to read the hour by a single travelling numeral, a display that became known as the wandering hour. The Mandetbrote Wandering Hour brings that idea to your wrist. Three rotating discs carry the hours, and the current one drifts along an arc of minutes at the top of the dial until the next takes its place, while a central hand sweeps the seconds around the outer track. In Gold, black discs and a black outer ring stand out against a sunray gold centre.

Behind the display, a micro chain-drive module sits on a Japanese Miyota 8215 automatic, with 21 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour and around 36 hours of power reserve, and it can also be wound by hand. The mechanism shows through a sapphire exhibition caseback, with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on top. The 41.2mm case in 316L stainless steel with a gold-tone finish is water resistant to 50 meters (5 ATM), and a black leather strap tapers from 20mm to 18mm. Over three centuries later, the wandering hour still makes reading the time a small event.
