Mechanical Art

Mechanical Art is our collection of motorised kinetic sculptures, built from precision-cut metal and driven by an internal motor and gear train. Each one takes its shape from a living creature and moves under its own power, and a removable shell lifts away to expose the cams, linkages and toothed wheels inside.

Every sculpture stands on an illuminated base with adjustable speed and brightness, and arrives either pre-assembled and ready to display or as an assembly kit you build yourself. It is the same mechanical craft that drives a watch movement, working at a scale you can watch.

Machines Built to Seem Alive

Long before clockwork settled into wristwatches, it was used to make animals. Eighteenth-century workshops produced mechanical birds that sang and figures that wrote, convincing enough to unsettle a room. The problem was never how to measure time — it was how to make metal behave like something living. These sculptures belong to that tradition by kind, driven by the same cams, linkages and gear trains.

A Mechanism You Can Watch Work

An internal motor drives a gear train, and the gear train drives the creature. Wings rise and fall in a gliding rhythm, tentacles reach, a rear propeller turns. Lift the magnetic shell away and the whole arrangement is open to view — cams, linkages and toothed wheels doing the job, with an illuminated base beneath.

    Motor-driven gears move each sculpture in a slow, deliberate rhythm. Nothing is simulated — the motion comes from a working train of wheels.

    A removable magnetic shell lets you close the piece up or strip it back to the mechanism underneath.

    Choose the kit and the creature takes shape in your hands over a few hours, with every tool supplied.

  • Illuminated Display

    Each sculpture stands on a lit base with adjustable brightness that settles into a slow breathing mode.
